Excerpt “Shortly after adopting Cooper my mother visited. Before running to the store, she’d pulled 24 meatballs out of the freezer and placed them in a dish by the stove. We returned to find the dish where we left it, but no meatballs (surprise!). Several months later she visited again – this time putting a baked ham in the same dish the meatballs had been stolen from. Having to again leave the house, I wisely hid the ham in the laundry room. Nevertheless, we came home to find it, along with the glass dish, in the family room! How did Cooper get the dish off the dryer without breaking the glass? Where was all the grease? Only Cooper knew for sure and he wasn’t telling. But my wild, young Lab was training me… Next time I’ll remember to close the laundry room door.” -Mary Campisi

Best dog ever. Makes me miss our Koko. Took her 10 yrs to leave puppyhood behind her. Totally devastating to have to end her life. She enriched our lives for 14 yrs. she could be in the back of the house, hear the refrigerator door open & have her head peeking inside before me. Spent each night grazing but never touched anything during the day. Never figured out that one. I learned to open the door standing behind it after she took me to my knees when I was between her & coming inside. How can anyone not have a dog in their home.
She came & left as the alpha female!

Lost Souls Found! Inspiring Stories about Labrador Retrievers edition by Kyla Duffy Lowrey Mumford Crafts Hobbies Home eBooks Reviews

The title of this book isn't just blowing smoke, it truly IS inspiring! These stories of rescued Labs demonstrate the "never say die" attitude of our four legged companions. There is a great lesson to be learned from these dogs Although abandoned and abused, they never gave up. Their persistence paid off in the end when they found loving homes with people who cared. A special treat for Lab lovers, this book with it's stories of triumph over adversity will put a smile on your face every time!
What a great book for any "lab lover" or anyone who takes in "lost souls".
Such heartwarming stories! The author did such a good job of show casing the wide range of behaviors you get when you have a lab! Most of all what amazing dogs they are!
Lost Souls found is truly an inspirational book!!
Thanks
This book is heartwarming. Labs are a popular breed, sometimes almost too popular, as they have long long puppyhoods and require a family with A LOT of energy - they often end up in shelters because their high activity levels are too much for those not prepared for life with labs. This book tells tales of lab rescues that required much love and patience and an ultimate story of lost souls found. Rescuing a dog takes committment but the rewards are lifelong and so very dear to the soul.
The multiple stories of this book are a complete story of Hope, of Forgiveness, of Tolerance, and of Love. In my volunteer work as a dog rescuer, I am always amazed by the willingness of animals who have been starved, neglected, and abused by human hands, to reach out to human hands; they still trust that a pat, a belly rub, an ear scratch, a simple of act of kindness, will be forthcoming. This book so clearly shows the tremendous heart of labs, and of the people whose lives are enriched by loving them.

You don't have to be a lab owner to love this book; it is a great read for any animal lover. Best of all, proceeds from this, and other Happy Tails books, benefit the groups who rescue these sweet and deserving animals.
Lost Souls Found! Inspiring Stories of Labrador Retrievers, is a compilation of true short stories about Labradors rescued and re-homed. Written by members of rescue organizations, fosters, and those who welcomed these dogs into their hearts and homes, the stories are tender, heart warming, funny and sometimes sad.

This little book takes a peek into the frequently chaotic, trying world of owning a rescue. The frustration and challenges can be many but the ultimate reward and joy shines through in each and every word for those who are willing to be patient, allowing the animal time to trust again.

Dogs thrown away like yesterdays trash; abused, neglected, starving, or simply unwanted, are capable of giving unconditional love from the bottom of big hearts if just one person comes along who will open their own heart. It has been said many times that a rescued dog "knows" it has found its way home. All of these Labs are home.

What has become one of my favorites, "Jail Dog", the story of Chase, a starving 6-month old, who is placed into a correctional facility for training with the hope of being adopted. Charles, the inmate responsible for Chase, wrote that he had been in many programs designed for self-improvement but not until A Fresh Start was he proud of anything he had ever done. He never cared about anything or loved anyone until the dogs he helped. He rescued Chase but Chase helped to rescue Charles.

"Discovering Beau," describes the love an older dog has to share. The photo of Beau on the plane is absolutely beautiful. The expression on his sweet face pulls at your heart. This one is close to my heart as I lost my 151/2-year-old chocolate Lab not long ago. She grew from a 7-week-old pup into a gray-muzzled old lady with grace and dignity. Adopting an older dog has special rewards all of its own. "A Story of Circumstance," tells of Sir George, a blind, severely neglected 18-month old Lab. The man, who had experienced his own serious medical struggles, found he had common ground with George, took a chance and ended up with a life long companion.

And so the stories go. You will laugh, you will cry. You will learn about rescue efforts, the breed with all of the wonderful, goofy, irresistible characteristics of the Labrador Retriever. They aren't the number one breed by chance. You will also, by purchasing this book, be giving a donation to Lab rescue organizations.

If you own a rescued Lab as I do (2), or just simply love the breed as I do, then you will want to read these funny, sometimes sad, heart warming stories about life with an adopted Lab. You might even recognize your own Lab experience in one of the "tails". You could even find your faith restored in the human race, so capable of cruelty, yet also capable of wonderful acts of compassion and love.
I love making dogs feel loved and unafraid. It is my greatest passion. I bought this book for my sister who has an adorable lab, Bo, whom she adopted when he and his sister were abandoned on a highway as tiny puppies. She told me that Bo was so hungry he ate and ate the first time he was fed until he made himself sick. His precious sister, Brandi, died a couple months after I lost one of my precious rescues, Lassie in 2006. I can't wait to read her book after she finishes it. Loving muttigrees, I'm anxious to get Kyla's book on mixed breeds, too.
Working to help lost furry souls can certainly show you the horrific side of human beings. Learning of Kyla and her Lost Souls Found books restores that faith in the human race. I have met (in person or through emails) some of the most generous human angels while trying to help dogs. Ghandi said "the greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated." PLEASE, if you haven't considered rescuing or adopting a dog, you are missing one of life's greatest pleasures. Thank you, Kyla, for this great series of stories!
